Abstract

A study by the Maine Atlantic Sea Run Salmon Commission has found low levels of the herbicide hexazinone in the Naraguagus River, its West Branch and the Pleasant River. The chemical, produced by DuPont under the brand name Velpar, revolutionized Maine's $100 million blueberry industry. Velpar was detected in wells in Aurora, Gouldsboro and Franklin last fall.
