Abstract

A strain of the rabies virus carried by skunks and racoons this week was identified in a skunk in Eliot, and several cases of the virus have been documented in Massachusetts and New Hampshire recently. A strain of the virus carried by foxes is moving toward Maine from Canada. State health officials are concerned about the skunk-racoon strain because racoons are so social and tend to move around so much.
