Abstract

Edward Hawes, an environmental historian from Brunswick, spent three years studying the environmental history of Portland harbor. The study was funded by a $9,773 grant from the Casco Bay Estuary Project, and has resulted in the recent publication of the 117-page report entitled "Dirty History: Historic Sources of Pollution in Portland Harbor."
