Abstract

Rite Aid Corp., the nation's largest drug store chain, is purchasing LaVerdiere's Super Drug Stores, the state's largest chain. Rite Aid has 2,684 stores nationwide, and two years ago purchased 34 Welby Super Drug Stores from Hannaford Bros. LaVerdiere's has 1,500 employees and 72 stores in northern New England, including 55 in Maine. The purchase must undergo regulatory approval, but is expected to be completed by June. Details.
