Abstract

The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday upheld a Maine state law that bars individuals from soliciting contributions on behalf of law enforcement groups. Maine instituted a law banning fund raising on behalf of law enforcement groups in 1977, and remains the only state with such a law. Plaintiffs involved in the case considered by the court included the Auburn and Lewiston police unions, the Portland Police Benevolent Association and a fund raiser. Details.
