Abstract

The U.S. House of Representative yesterday voted 216-214 to approve a measure that bans the production and sale of 19 kinds of semi-automatic weapons, and the state's House delegation split on the vote. Democrat Thomas H. Andrews was in favor of the measure, while Republican Olympia J. Snowe opposed it, laying the foundation for yet another issue for the two to debate as they prepare for this November's election. Snowe and Andrews will face off in an election for the Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell.
