Abstract

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's regional office in Boston is recommending approval for a Maine Department of Environmental Protection proposal to use gains realized under the state's new auto emissions testing program to give industry permission to discharge more pollutants. The plan was prompted by a proposal by Louisiana-Pacific to expand its facility and workforce at its plant in New Limerick. The Natural Resources Council of Maine, which yesterday brought attention to the proposal, says the plan undermines the purpose of the emissions testing. Details.
