Abstract

In the wake of last week's revelation that a medium-sized container of popcorn purchased at most movie theaters contains as much saturated fat as a Big Mac, fries, bacon and eggs and a steak dinner combined, the theaters at Clarks Pond in South Portland, Nickelodeon in downtown Portland, and The Movies on Exchange Street say they have no objections to patrons bringing their own popcorn. Both Hoyt's Cinema, which runs Clarks Pond and Nickelodeon, and General Cinema, owner of Maine Mall Cinema, indicate they have no intention at this time of switching from the highly saturated coconut oil to some other cooking oil. With a comparison of the percentage of saturated and unsaturated fats contained in various cooking oils.
