Abstract

The Finance Authority of Maine estimates that Maine college students this year will borrow $80 million in one government program alone, more than double the debt incurred just four years ago. Tuition increases and changes in the federal government's financial aid policy are resulting in higher student debt, which in turn is dictating the paths that some graduating students are taking.
