Abstract

With 89 percent of the state's 656 precincts reporting, Susan Collins of Standish emerged last night as the winner of the Republican gubernatorial primary. Collins had more than 16,500 votes, or 21 percent of the total. She was followed by state representative Sumner Lipman of Augusta, with 16 percent; Jasper Wyman, also with 16 percent; state representative Judith Foss of Yarmouth with 13 percent; state representative Paul Young of Limeston with 12 percent; Mary Adams of Garland with 9 percent; state senator Charles Webster of Farmington with 7 percent; and Senate Minority Leader Pamela Cahill of Woolwich at 6 percent.
