Abstract

The Portland City Council yesterday voted 8-0 to approve a $1 million loan to the Maine College of Art, with Councilor Thomas H. Allen absent. The money will be used to renovate the former Porteous building at 522 Congress Street, and the school plans to move into the building by September 1995. The Maine Health and Higher Education Facilities Authority will loan the college $2.6 million for the project, which is expected to cost $9 million. The college will not make payments on the $1 million city loan until 1998. Details.
