Abstract

Jamie Rand, 17, a standout runner, musician and student at Windham High School, had been accepted to the Air Force Academy and was a good bet to be class valedictorian when she learned earlier this spring that she had myasthenia gravis, a rare muscular disease. The disease results from a defect in the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles, and produces weakness and fatigue in voluntary muscles. Details.
