Abstract

Some residents, like Charly and Jack Matheson, of Mitchell Road in Cape Elizabeth, fearing that someone is going to be struck and seriously injured by a speeding vehicle, want the speed limit on the road reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph, but they have received little official support. Police chief David Pickering, for example, believes that stricter enforcement of the current speed is preferable to lowering the limit. A survey of Mitchell road residents shows that a majority of residents side with the chief.
