Abstract

Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) yesterday agreed to a pact under which it will build up to seven fish passages on the Saco River, beginning just above the tidal waters in Biddeford-Saco and working upriver. The utility has committed to building three passages at an estimated cost of $6.45 million, with four more passages possibly required, at a cost of $11.5 million. The passages are necessary for CMP's dam relicensing, and are intended to help restore populations of alewives, American shad and American salmon in the river. Details.
