Abstract

Old Orchard Beach town officials on Tuesday will ask the town council to authorize spending $25,000 to study the feasibility of breaking away from Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) and forming a municipal electric district. The city of Westbrook last week announced plans to study a proposal to form a municipal electric district and purchase power directly from S. D. Warren, and Kennebunk Light and Power Co. last year negotiated a favorable contract with CMP that will save customers 40 percent on their electric bills.
