Abstract

Building Alternatives is a three-year national demonstration project run by the Portland West neighborhood group and financed with U.S. Department of Education grants totaling $187,505 a year. The project, which mixes schooling with work in the building trades, is one of 11 nationwide, and one of only three for juveniles. There are currently seven juvenile offenders enrolled, the sixth group to go through the 16-week program. Details.
