The U.S. Navy yesterday christened the nation's 16th Trident submarine, the U.S.S. Maine, at a ceremony in Groton, Conn. The 560-foot submarine is the third Navy ship named in honor of Maine; the first was a battleship sunk in Havana Harbor in Cuba in 1898, while the second served in the Great White Fleet in 1907-08 and as a training ship during World War I.
