Abstract

The U.S. Navy yesterday announced that Bath Iron Works and Ingalls Shipbuilding of Mississippi will be paid a base price of $278.9 million for each of the Aegis destroyers to be built by the yards. The Navy in June acknowledged that the bidding process had become so competitive that it threatened to destroy the two shipyards, and decided that each yard would build three ships for a set price. BIW will design a major upgrade of the destoryer, and will build the first ship of that kind. Details.
