Abstract

Representatives of school boards, superintendents and the University of Maine System are advocating for the creation of a pilot program that would teach ethical behavior in three school districts in the state. Nelson Walls, executive director of the Maine Leadership Consortium, says the project was inspired by a general concern about personal safety. The Institute for Global Ethics in Camden, an organization at the forefront of the character education movement, has conducted exercises with businesses and non-profits that shows it is possible for people of diverse backgrounds to agree upon a core of common values.
