Abstract

Erwin L. Rupert, 38, who holds a master of divinity degree from Harvard University, asked the city of Portland to excuse the $2,882.36 property tax bill on his condominium at 608 Chandler's Wharf, claiming the condo fits Maine's tax-exemption statute because it is a place of worship. The city refused, and Rupert has asked a Superior Court judge to reverse the city's denial.
