Abstract

Portland police chief Michael Chitwood yesterday said that his department will return the Glock 9mm semiautomatic pistol that it confiscated from Bruce Mayberry of Windham. Mayberry on July 19 showed up at the Deering Oaks Family Festival with the loaded weapon in a holster strapped around his waist, and police disarmed him and asked him to leave park. There is no law preventing a person from carrying an unconcealed weapon, but Chitwood said he may ask legislators to introduce a bill that would prevent people from carrying weapons at family events.
