Abstract
Eight armed men loitered in Monument Square yesterday evening, and were ignored by the Portland Police Department. The gathering was prompted by yesterday's Gene Burns show, a nationally syndicated radio talk show that airs on a local station. Burns' topic was the July 19 Portland Police Department confiscation of an automatic weapon from Bruce Mayberry of Windham, who showed up at the Deering Oaks Family Festival with the loaded weapon in a holster strapped around his waist. The men were not confronted by police because there is no law against carrying an unconcealed weapon. Details, related article.
