Abstract
John Roberts, the Biddeford clothing company, on Thursday sent its workers home without pay, and told them not to report to work yesterday. Dale Jewell, acting chief executive, said he is waiting for approval from the company's creditors to borrow from its accounts receivable, and expects to pay the 135 workers on Tuesday. Charlie Mercer, a spokesman for the Finance Authority of Maine, said FAME is concerned about the company's long-term viability, and is no longer able to provide financial assistance. FAME has lent John Roberts in excess of $1 million. Details.
