Abstract

Office space in Greater Portland is quickly becoming a sellers' market. A Boulos Co. broker, one of Maine's largest real estate development and brokerage firms, said recently that the vacancy rates in the Greater Portland area dipped below ten percent in the first months of 1994 for the first time since southern Maine's real estate boom. Vacancy rates for Class A office space overall are five percent, and in the suburban market near the Maine Mall in South Portland is the rate is below three percent, the best since a 2.3 percent rate in the spring of 1987. The national office vacancy rate is 16.8 percent.
