Abstract

Nationally, single women outnumber single men by 4-to-1, and in Maine, the situation is even more out of balance since women account for 78 percent of the state's single population. The These statistics present a real challenge to widows, such as June Glidden, 64, of Frankfort, and Mary O'Donnell, 69, now of Bangor, who are seeking male companionship and an active social life.
