Abstract

Concerned Maine Families, the group seeking to have gay rights banned under Maine human rights laws, yesterday submitted petitions containing the signatures of 66,502 voters to the Maine Secretary of State's office. The proposal would restrict the classifications of people who could be protected from discrimination under state and local laws, but would not bar the state Legislature from adding gay protections to the Maine Human Rights Act.
