Abstract

Eleven weeks ago, the state awarded nearly $900,000 in grants to 12 school systems so they can improve their computer systems, but appeals by the Bangor School Department and the Somerville School Committee have held up the appropriation of the funds. The 12 systems were chosen from 109 statewide that applied, and each are to receive approximately $75,000 each. The appeals allege that the manner in which the state chose the winners was arbitrary and biased, and state Education Commissioner Leo G. Martin has created a committee to review the way the winners were chosen. Details.
