Abstract

The University of Maine at Augusta this fall will offer 73,000 cable television subscribers across Maine the opportunity to take classes ranging from accounting to music, all in the comfort of their own home. The offering is the result of a link between the university's interactive television system and six cable companies, and the cost per credit hour is $94.50, with a $25 fee for a device to unscramble the signal. The system was tested on 18 cable subscribers this summer, and some of the participants raved about it. Details.
