Abstract

Maine fishermen last winter caught 4.9 million pounds of shrimp, up from 3.3 million pounds the previous winter, but the smaller size of the shrimp resulted in a lower price. The shrimp brought 78 cents per pound, as compared to $1.10 per pound the previous winter. It normally takes 32 to 36 shrimp to get a pound, whereas last winter it took 48 to 54 shrimp to get a pound.
