Abstract

The development boom that transformed the town of Windham during the 1970s and 1980s is still going strong, as evidenced by the recent opening of a new Shaw's, a new Pizza Hut, a newly expanded Shop 'n Save, and by the projected October opening of a $3.5 million Wal-Mart. Town officials and business leaders are studying the future of the area, looking at issues such as traffic, environmental impact and aesthetics. Later this month they will present a plan that would allow Windham to take advantage of the development by using sheltered tax money to finance planning and improvements. Details.
