Abstract

Bob Alberts of Dover, a paramedic and part-time police officer, on November 7, 1990, became lost in the woods while hunting. The Maine Warden Service found Alberts the next day, and when they did his temperature had fallen into the 80s. Wardens search for dozens of lost hunters each fall, and snow and freezing temperatures can make the situation desperate. From 1986 through 1991 333 hunters became lost in the Maine woods.
