Abstract
Residents of Peaks Island have spotted skunks and racoons on the island for the first time in recent memory, and are worried that a lack of predators will allow them to increase rapidly. An effort to trap and relocate the animals has been hindered by the reluctance of private trappers to take on the job. State biologists have offered advice and the city of Portland has offered traps, but neither is required to do anything more to help get rid of the animals. Details.
