Abstract

The new $800,000 Cumberland County Pre-Release Center, located next to the new Cumberland County Jail, can house 42 inmates, both male and female. Inmates spend their time doing community service to reduce their sentences or by working at jobs in the community, and can leave the center if they have an authorized reason. Cumberland County Deputy District Attorney Edmund Folson says the center is loosely run and allows the inmates too comfortable an existence, but jail officials say the concern is unfounded because inmates doing outside work are approved by judges.
