Abstract

A group of Peaks Island residents promoting secession from Portland yesterday sponsored a straw poll on the issue, and the secret balloting showed 55 residents in favor, four opposed and one abstention. Coleman Mulkern, a member of the Union movement, said many anti-secession residents stayed away, and that the session itself amounted to a pro-secessionist meeting. Details.
