Abstract
Discovery House, Maine's first methadone clinic, has attracted far fewer clients in the six weeks it has been open than originally expected. Owner David Piccoli said last year when he proposed the facility that he expected to serve 150 clients daily, but the clinic is now serving just 36 clients daily. Portland police have estimated there are more than 500 heroin addicts in the Portland area, but the state has no firm data. Details.
